The 3rd Slope Tectonic Conference arranged at the Geological Survey of Norway on September 8.-12. 2014, follows the 2nd Slope Tectonic Conference organized at the Geological Survey of Austria in 2011 and the 1st Slope Tectonic conference organized at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland in 2008.
Rapporten omfatter: Bergrunnsgeologi, kvartærgeologi og geologiske ressurser av økonomisk betydning med karter M 1:500 000. Den berggrunnsgeologiske beskrivelse inneholder følgende: Innledning grunnfjellet, senprekamriske til kambriske bergarter, overskjøvne (alloktone bergarter), geologisk utvikling, geologiske forekomster som foreslåes fredet, litteratur; berggrunnsgeologi.
I følge NGU's statutter er det institusjonens oppgave å bidra til et best mulig grunnlag for forvaltningen av Norges naturressurser og til å gi almenheten kunnskaper om landets geologi. Dette skal bl.a. skje ved utbygging og drift av sentralarkiv for data innen institusjonens fagområder. I den forbindelse har NGU under utbygging et EDB-basert referansearkiv. De viktigste programsystemer som inngår er: - IMAGE databasesystem som tar seg av lagring av referanser under bearbeiding.
A combined geological, geophysical and geochemical exploration project aimed at finding new ore reserves in the vicinity of the Bleikvassli mine, Nordland county was initiated by NGU in 1993. A number of the anomalous areas detected during this regional survey were followed up with more detailed investigations. One of these was the Grasvatnet area where detailed geological mapping revealed sulphide-impregnations with restricted thickness and extent.

Geological and geophysical investigations in Vesterålen were carried out during 2015 and 2016 with additional funds from the Nordland County Administration. A first report (Gautneb, et al., 2017) emphasizes the geological aspects of the graphite prospecting (trenching, sampling, analyses, mineralogy and beneficiation tests). This report describes the results from ground geophysical mapping of graphite mineralisations at five locations in the Vesterålen area.

With knowledge of geology in place, along with more efficient methods for extracting resources and improved recycling of metals and minerals, a more environmentally-friendly mineral value-chain can also be developed in Norway.
The GESTCO (GEological STorage of CO2) from fossil fuel combustion project comprises a study of the distribution and coincidence of thermal CO2 emission sources and location/quality of geological storage capacity in Europe. The GESTCO project is a joint research project conducted by 8 national geological surveys and several industry partners/end users, partly funded by the European Union 5th Framework Programme for Research and Developmen.
Åknes is known as the most hazardous rockslide area in Norway at present, and is among the most investigated rockslides in the world, representing an exceptional natural laboratory. This study focuses on structural geology on five zones to interpret and understand the geometry of the rockslide area. The interpretations are further used to build a geological model of the site.
The Mjølnir impact crater was discovered in seismic reflection data in the 1990's and the detailed structure is well established. The submarine crater, situated in the southwestern Barents Sea, is believed to have a crater diameter of about 40 km, and a shallow relief (About 50 m). The crater is buried under a layer of sediments. Stratigraphic relationships (drill core 7329/03-U01) indicate a Cretaceous formation age around 140 Ma.
Norsk Geologisk Forening (NGF) inviterer sammen med Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU) og Geopark Sunnhordland, til geoturismeseminar. The previously defined Sandøla and østre Skorovas Cu, Pb and Zn provinces are united and enhanced by new high-metal samples in the Fremstfjellet and Neså- piggen districts, which also define a new Mo province. The Østre Skorovas province is extended up to Tunnsjøen. Mo, Cu and Zn mineralisation has been found in the Fremstfjellet area; these elements show a good correlation between high-metal concentration in stream sediment samples and the principal underlying bedrock type.
Movement of the Earth's plates through geological time can be described in therms of a series of rotations on the sphere (Earth). If we can determine what these rotations have been, we can rotate ancient geological features on the Earth's plates back to their former positions to produce paleogeographic maps. We present an open source computer program that performs such rotations on the sphere.
The international nuclear emergency exercise Barents Rescue took place in the vicinity of Boden in Northern Sweden between the 12th and 20th of September 2001. The Gamma Search Cell part of the exercise was designed to test the abilities of car-borne and air-borne measuring systems to quickly locate and characterise radioactive sources hidden in the countryside.
Prof. Dr. Trond Helge Torsvik was born on October 12, 1957. He attended the Norwegian Naval Academy before taking degrees from the University of Bergen in 1982 and 1985. In 1991, after a post-doctoral position at Oxford, Trond joined the Geological Survey of Norway in Trondheim, where he continues working today. Since then, he has also held appointments at the University of Bergen, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the University of Witwatersrand, and the University of Oslo.
MAREANO is an interdisiplinary programme mapping Norwegian offshore bathymetry, geology, biology and geochemistry. Following bathymetric mapping by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service, biological and geological sampling are undertaken by the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) to obtain visual (video) and physical sample data that are used in conjunction with bathymetric and backscatter data for the generation of thematic maps.

Catastrophic failure of large rock slopes in Norway has several times per century led to rock avalanches or large rock falls, which impacted into settlements directly, but also caused either a displacement wave when impacting a water body or damming of narrow valleys with often fatal consequences. Such events will also occur in the future.
Young Trondhjemites, the conference for young researchers working with geosciences and engineering in Trondheim, has been arranged in 2018 for the third time. The conference has been held at the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) on the 16 of March. The programme included 3 invited talks. The first of these talks was presented by Jørn H. Hurum, who gave tips on outreach.
The purpose of this report is to review how bathymetric data may be used to characterize seabed terrain with a view to benthic habitat mapping This study was led by the Geological Survey of Norway with contributions from the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, The Geological Survey of Ireland and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
The field trip of the 3rd Slope Tectonics conference visits areas of past rock slope failures and present-day unstable rock slopes and aims to discuss the structural and geological conditions of these sites, the morphologies and tectonic fabrics induced by slope movements and the role of glaciers, isostatic uplift and major faults in the development of rock slope failures.
I 2004 og 2005 gjennomførte NGU maringeologisk kartlegging av sjøbunnen i Rauøyfjorden, rundt Missinger-Søstrene og i Akersundet ved Hvaler i forbindelse med planlegging av en nasjonalpark/et marint verneområde. Kartleggingen ble utført i regi av NGUs GEOS-prosjekt (Geologi i Oslo-regionen). Geokjemiske data fra NGU's blyprosjekt korreleres med prevalense data for multiple sclerose. Denne forberedende undersøkelsen synes å indikere at: -kompleks geologi gjør det nødvendig å inndele de geokjemiske data i små homogene underområder -de medisinske data må inndeles i mindre enheter enn herreder -metallinnhold i de ulike geologiske formasjoner bør bedømmes -det kan være ønskelig med supplerende prøvetaking.
The Geological Survey of Norway is in the process of carrying out and inventory of hard rock aggregate deposits in coastal Norway. This report contains a catalogue of Norwegian coastal quarries at present in production areas along the coast of southern Norway. 5.8 million tons of aggregates was exported to Europe in 1966 and ca. 1 million tons was used offshore.
Ved to marmorforekomster like nord og nordvest for Ljøsenhammer Sæter, er det av firma Terje Holmen boret ialt 300 m. Loggingen i forbindelse med dette oppdraget er utført av NGU. En sammenstilling og tolkning av forekomstenes geologi er utført på bakgrunn av disse boringene og geologisk kart.
Rapporten består av to bind med borhullsprofiler i M:1:2 000: Ett bind med 14 Ø-V profiler og ett bind med 12 N-S profiler. Profilene viser boringene 1971.1975, med registrert geologi og en grafisk fremstilling av analyseverdien for sulfidbundet nikkel inntegnet langs hullene. profilene viser også boringen e fra tidligere undersøkelsesperioder. Bindene fører dessuten et geologisk/ elektromagnetisk kart over feltet i samme målestokk.
NGU avholder i perioden 9.-13.8.1993 et kurs for naturfaglærere ved de pedagog- iske høyskolene i Norge. Kurset avholdes i samarbeide med Statens lærerkurs. Tema er: "Geologi, menneske og miljø". Kurset avsluttes med en kort ekskursjon med rute Trondheim-Støren-Røros-Tydal-Stjørdal-Trondheim. Denne rapporten gir en kort innføring i de forskjellige tema som blir tatt opp, samt beskriver reiseruten i rimelig detalj.
The report introduces the NGU TFEM-85 time- and frequency-domain electromagnetic system developed at the Geological Survey of Norway. A generel description of the system design, and a more Specific description of the receiver-coil system, the receiver, the transmitter and the power supply units is given. The report does not include details of the theory, the hardwares and the programs.

On behalf of Crew Development Corporation the Geological Survey of Norway have executed a Magneric, VLF and Slingram survey over Tjønnvollmyra area. Tjønn- vollmyra is located 20 km east of Ålen in Sør-Trøndelag county. The purpose of the survey was to follow up the Hekicopter EM survey done over the same area in 1999.
This report considers: 1) The prospectivity of different parts of the Råna intrusion: 2) Data sets generated from core drilled in 2006 (and relevant core drilled by Outokumpu and NGU) and possible correlations indicated by the geology of the cores, 3) The significance of microprobe data from different parts of the Råna intrusion and 4) Possible targets for further work.
An integrated study of geophysical data from the offshore and onshore areas of northern Norway between 67° and 71°N was carried out as a collaboration project between Elf Petroleum, Norsk Hydro, The Norwegian Petroleum Direc- torate, Statoil and the Geological survey of Norway. The interpretation of aeromagnetic, gravimetric and petrophysical data was integrated with mapping and palaeomagnetic dating of post-Caledonian faults on land.
Rapporten inneholder beskrivelse av forkastninger og skjærsoner som opptrer på kartblad 1:250 000 Tromsø. Beskrivelsen er basert på eget feltarbeid utført somrene 1990 og 1991 og laboratorie-undersøkelser. Videre fra trykte publikasjoner og kart og upublisert materiale vesentlig fra andre geologer.
Rapporten gir en kortfattet beskrivelse av bergarter og Ni-Cu forekomster ved Iveland, og er basert på feltundersøkelser i forbindelse med en hovedfagsoppgave (speciale) i geologi ved København Universitet. Området karakteriseres ved forskjellige typer av gneiser, gabbroer, amfibolitter og ultramafiske bergarter, hvorav flere av de mafiske og ultramafiske bergartstyper fører Ni-Cu forekomster.
