Summary
Three different tectonostratigraphical elements are recognized: Precambrian basement, the autochtonous(?) Kinnfokfjellet Formation and Fortun Nappe. The Precambrian basement consists mainly of intermediate to acid gneisses of probable igneous origin, deformed and folded during the Sveconorwegian orogeny. A late tectonic granite intrudes the gneisses. A part of the Precambrian basement is folded and faulted with the overlying rocks. This part comprises gneisses, intrusive rocks, metavolcanic rocks and meta-arkoses of late Precambrian age. The Kinnfokfjellet Formation lies unconformably above the crystalline basement and consists of a thin quartzite, partly with a basal conglomerate. Thrust above this is the Fortun Nappe which comprises the Fivlenosi Group consisting mainly of phyllite with quartzite, mica-chist, meta-arkose, greenchist with gabbro and limestone. The folding and deformation of the Fortun Nappe is of Caledonian age. The thrusting of the Fortun Nappeis of Caledonian age. The thrusting of the Fortun Nappe is probably a late Caledonian event, and the nappe transport has been in a southeastward direction.
