2.4.7 Boundaries

The boundaries of a geological unit are to be defined and described. The various criteria used for delimiting a unit must match the category into which the unit falls and the degree of exposure in the area. For litho-, bio- and chronostratigraphical units it is particularly important to define the lower boundary, since the upper boundary will often be defined by the lower boundary of the succeeding unit.
