Summary
The map-sheets Lønsdal and Graddis, 2128 III and 2128 II, cover parts of the area of a Quaternary mapping programme carried out by NGU in the Saltfjellet district of Nordland, north Norway. The superficial deposits are classified according to their genesis and described. The directions of ice movements have been reconstructed mainly on the basis of glacial striae and drumlins, and the coarse of deglaciation established based on ice movements, marginal moraines, meltwater drainage and the distribution of glacial deposits.

Summary
The map-sheet Bjøllådal, 2028 II, covers a part of the area of a Quaternary mapping programme carried out by NGU in the Saltfjellet district of Nordland. The superficial deposits are classified according to their genesis, and described. The directions of ice movements have been reconstructed mainly on the basis of glacial striae and drumlins, and the course of deglaciation established based on ice movements, marginal moraines, meltwater and the distribution of glacial deposits. The ice movements can be divided intor three main phases: 1) The oldest observed movement direction, towards the west. 2) A younger movement directed towards the northwest. 3) At the end of the deglaciation all the high mountains were ice-free, but glacier tongues flowing from the inland ice further east still occupied the valleys. During the deglaciation c. 9000 yrs. B.P. there were readvances of the inland ice, each one depositing marginal moraines, glaciofluvial and glacio- lacustrine deposits. At the end of the deglaciation extensive ice-dammed lakes developed, especially in Bjøllådalen where ice movements and meltwater drainage were directed towards the north, opposite to the present drainage of Bjøllådalen. The last ice remnants were located in the main valley. Dunderlandsdalen were the ice front receded towards the east. Till is the most common deposit, thick deposits occurring mainly in the valleys.

Summary
På Sørsiden av Snåsavatnet ligger den kjente helleristningslokaliteten "Bølareinen". Fra lokalt hold ble det nedsatt en arbeidsgruppe for å skaffe bedre informasjon om ristningene og forholdene på stedet helt fra tidlig steinalder og fram til idag. Her er landhevningen etter siste istid et sentralt tema. Det er reist informasjonstavler på stedet. Arbeidsgruppen har i tillegg diskutert NGUs forslag om å lage en borsjyre. En lang rekke institusjoner og lag har deltatt i arbeidet. Erfaringene fra et slikt tverrfaglig prosjekt vil være nyttig for lignende tiltak ved flere av våre fornminner, naturvern- objekter o.l. Rapporten inneholder kun NGUs andel av prosjektet (tema landhevning).

Movement of the Earth's plates through geological time can be described in therms of a series of rotations on the sphere (Earth). If we can determine what these rotations have been, we can rotate ancient geological features on the Earth's plates back to their former positions to produce paleogeographic maps.
We present an open source computer program that performs such rotations on the sphere. The program is written for Microsoft WIndows and runs inside the widely used Oasis Montaj mapping software produced by Geosoft Inc. (www.geosoft.com) for processing, visualizing and analysing large earth science datasets (geophysical, geological and geochemical). The rotation function takes form of a "GX" that is activated via a menu in the Oasis Montaj program and can operate on angy geo-referenced data stored in a Geosoft database file.
The rotation program is distributed free of charge together with this report, but licensed version of Geosoft's Oasis Montaj is required to run it. Anyone installing and using our rotation software does so at his or her own risk. We do not accept responsibility for any loss or corruption of data that might occur through use of the software.

If we can determine what these rotations have been, we can rotate ancient geological features on the Earth's plates back to their former positions to produce paleogeographic maps.
We present an open source computer program that performs such rotations on the sphere. Summary
Prof. Dr. Trond Helge Torsvik was born on October 12, 1957. He attended the Norwegian Naval Academy before taking degrees from the University of Bergen in 1982 and 1985. In 1991, after a post-doctoral position at Oxford, Trond joined the Geological Survey of Norway in Trondheim, where he continues working today. Since then, he has also held appointments at the University of Bergen, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the University of Witwatersrand, and the University of Oslo. Trond is an Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Norway, the Norwegian Academy of Science, the Academia Europea, and the American Geophysical Union.
Trond has made significant contributions in (among other sciences) paleomagnetism, paleogeography, plate tectonics, and mantle dynamics. His field areas have spanned the world's continents, and probed the Core Mantle Boundary. His list of collaborators is impressively international. Although his published contributions are legion, Trond is also well known for his paleomagnetic and plate reconstruction software, which he has consistently made available to the scientific community.
This seminar, Geodynamics, Geomagnetism and Paleogeography: A 50 Year Celebration, has been organized to honour Trond following the successful completion of his first half century. Statoil ASA, Physics of Geological Processes at the University of Oslo, and the Geological Survey of Norway are proud to sponsor these proceedings as a fitting recognition of the scientific contributions of THT.
