The Geological Survey of Norway has compiled an inventory of hard rock aggregate deposits in coastal Norway. This report contains a catalogue of Norwegian coastal quarries presently in production and exporting, as well as of potential production areas along the coast of South-Central Norway and Finnmark. In 2015, 22.7 million tonnes of aggregates were exported to Europe, and about 4 million tonnes were used by the offshore oil and gas industry on the continental shelf.

In 2016, 22.4 million tonnes of aggregates were exported to Europe, and about 1,5 million tonnes were used by the offshore oil and gas industry on the continental shelf.

Denne rapporten er en sammenstilling av NGUs kunnskap om kystnære pukkverk for eksport og hvilke kriterier som bør hensyntas ved kartlegging av nye områder. Norge har et betydelig utvalg av byggeråstoffressursene sand, grus og pukk. De viktigste bergartene er: gneis, anortositt, mylonitt, gabbro, samt spesielle sandsteiner og eklogitt til pukk. Disse er ikke lett tilgjengelig Europa. Norges lange kyst med gode forhold for utskiping, et høyt teknologisk nivå og gode FoU-miljøer viktige fortrinn som gir muligheter for fortsatt vekst for byggeråstoffproduksjonen i Norge.
Omlag 30 prosent av den norske pukkproduksjonen går i dag til eksport til kontinentet. I 2018 ble det eksportert 27.5 mill. tonn til en verdi på 1,6 milliarder kroner ifølge SSB og produsenter.
