Ground-penetrating rdar (GPR) profiling has been carried out at five locations in Lithuania. At one of these locations (Pajuoste airport), magnetic gradio- meter measurements were conducted in four areas. The main purpose of the investigations was to demonstrate how GPR could be applied to geological, hydrogeological and geotechnical problems. The Geological Survey of Lithuania wanted to use the results as an aid to the decision on whether to purchase a GPR or not.

The Geological Survey of Norway is in the process of carrying out an inventory of deposits of sand, gravel and hard rock aggregate throughout the country. The goals are for the Gravel database to be complete by 1995 and for the Hard Rock Aggregate database to be complete for small local quarries by 1996. The purpose of the deposits concerned, through identification of their location and quality and of possible land-use conflicts.

These are the Course Notes prepared for the NorFA-sponsored Short Course on "Geochemical processes, weathering and ground water recharge in catchments" held at Selbusjøen Hotell & Gjestegård October 16-23, 1994. There were 26 students from the Nordic Countries including two from Latvia, and 15 lecturers from Denmark (1), Norway (8), Sweden (1), UK (3) and the USA (2).
The eclogite province of W.Norway is subdivided into 8 geographic regions. The three southernmost of these regions - Holsnøy, Dalsfjord and Førdefjord, are surrounded by large areas without known eclogites, while the regions from Nord-fjord and northwards form parts of a large eclogite province. The rutile content is generally 1-2%; 3-4% rutile or more occur within some eclogites in the Holsnøy (Hordaland), Dalsfjord and Førdefjord (both Sogn and Fjordane) regions.
The Ranafjorden area in northern Norway is a region of increased seismicity and anomalous land uplift.
