Summary
A pilot study was carried out with the intention of establishing a geochemical inorganic signal or "fingerprint" of soluble major, minor, and trace elements when different types of reservoir and cap rocks come in contact with saline water with and without CO2. The focus here is the value of the elemental concentrations in relation to each other and not the absolute value of each elemental concentration in itself or in relation to the thermodynamic state of the carbonate system. The results are very preliminary and the experimental set-up is not strigent enough to draw any permanent conclusions about solubility of major, minor, and trace elements dissolved when mixtures of these chosen sedimentary rock types are put in contact with saline water with and without CO2.
