API and WMS services
On this site you will find WMS-addresses enabling connection to your own map- or GIS software. This is typically referred to as a map service. In addition, you may look at potential usage of our data and services, you can view and download product sheets and legends, and access metadata.
You can choose to filter on topic and you can also use the search option. If you select List view, you can view the contents in a table.
The map service shows thematic maps derived from multibeam bathymetry and sediment maps. Steepness of the seabed (slope), Anchoring conditions, Digability and Accumulation basins are some of the maps specially developed to meet the needs of fisheries and othes activities in the coastal areas.

The map service shows the content of heavy metals and other inorganic environmental indicators in the seabed sediments.

The map service shows landforms related to submarine slides, and natural phenomena that can cause seabed instability and pose risks for subsea systems and/or exposed coastal areas.

The map service shows examples of different bottom types by presenting photos from specific locations. Photos from videos collected by MAREANO form a part of the documentation used as ground truthing by both geologists and biologist.

The map service shows various landforms on the seabed. The interpretation is based on detailed bathymetry, backscatter and seabed sediment samples.

The map service shows submarine landscapes of the ocean areas defined as larger geographical areas with homogenous apparance. The classification is based on 50 m grid bathymetry. The main aim of the service is to visualise submarine landscapes of the Norwegian offshore in a simple and user friendly way so that data can be used by the management, industy and research institutions. Submarine landscapes is one of the key maps from the MAREANO-programme.

The map service shows the distribution of marine Biotopes, Shell sand deposits and Terminal moraines. The biotope maps are made in cooperation by NGU and IMR in frame of the MAREANO programme based on numerous physical, geological and biological parameters. Biotope maps along the coast are products of other projects. Maps of shell sand deposits along the coast are based on mapping (resource maps), and mapping/modelleling (shell sand as a nature type on the seabed). Maps of shell sand as a nature type are made in cooperation between NGU and NIVA in frame of the National Programme for Mapping of Marine Biological Diversity, led by the Norwegian Environment Agency and the Directorate of Fisheries. Also terminal moraines on the seabed, which are considered to constitute a special bottom type for fauna and flora, are mapped in the frame of this programme.

The map service has localities for analog seismic lines and digital seismic lines including images.
Karttjenesten viser modellerte geologiske parametere for marine bunnsedimenter.
The map service provides a complete overview of probable occurrences of coral mounds in the areas mapped on the Norwegian continental shelf. It is a useful tool for assessing the need for more detailed mapping or measures in an area. The service is based on four data sets that are the result of automatic classification of high-resolution bathymetry data. Scale 1: 7,000,000 - 1: 5,000.

The map service shows the distribution of various sediment types on the seabed classified by grain size, genesis of the seabed sediments, recent sedimentary environments and processes, seabed reflectivity (backscatter, from multibeam echosounders and 3D seismic data), seabed sediment types from sea charts (point classifications), sediment thickness, and names of for example banks and ocean areas often used in marin mapping.
