Oil and gas

NGU cooperates closely with the oil and gas industry to map the stratigraphy and geological evolution of the continental shelf. Industry needs our data for their exploration activities.

The oil and gas industry needs detailed information about the deeper parts of the continental shelf in order to understand the fundamental processes behind land uplift, basin formation and temperature changes through geological time. This information is used to find the most promising oil and gas provinces. Various types of data are used, including seismic, gravity, magnetic, heat flow and petrophysical data. NGU has performed several large research projects in cooperation with the oil industry, focussing on Quaternary and older deposits.
