Geophysics
The Geophysics section offers a profound expertise for a wide spectrum of geophysical techniques which comprise airborne, marine, ground and borehole data. Data acquisition and research are carried out in close collaboration with industry partners and various national and international institutes and universities. Combining geological and geophysical observations we provide a comprehensive understanding of the subsurface from local to regional scale and for both, surficial deposits and the solid rock. Near surface exploration for reconnaissance for groundwater or the subsurface related to infrastructure or tunnel projects is an important task in our group.
We are responsible for maintenance and update of magnetic, electromagnetic, radiometric and gravity data coverage for Norway and the Norwegian continental shelf. We interrelate these data with geological, petro-physical and other geophysical data like EM and seismics for basement characterization, structural setting and tectonic evolution. We derive information about and model the crustal composition of Norway and the deeper parts of the continental shelf in order to understand fundamental processes, such as uplift, basement alteration and weathering, basin formation and temperature variation.
