Rana-distriktet har fra gammelt av vært kjent som et geologisk meget interessant område med mineralske ressurser av mange slag. Bergverksdriften har lange tradisjoner her og har gitt levebrød til mange opp igjennom tidene.
Vi får stadig besøk fra verdensrommet. Stort sett kommer besøket i form av svært små partikler, men av og til noen større. Noen av disse besøkene setter spor etter seg.
