- We are very grateful to learn more about Norway's geology, minerals and use of natural stone and construction aggregates, as we work with the same issues in Switzerland as well, says geologist Beat Rick.
He and the Swiss mining association SASTE recently visited the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU).
Reuse of excavation and tunnelling materials in Norway
During the visit, the Swiss delegation heard Department Director Henrik Schiellerup talk about Norway's potential for minerals and metals.
NGU researchers Mark Simoni and Annina Margreth presented applications of Norwegian natural stone and discussed how important geological mapping is for the sustainable production of sand, gravel, and crushed stone, Norway’s most important export products from the mineral industry.
- Switzerland has come a long way in reusing surplus materials from tunnelling, road construction and other projects. That’s why it was exciting to hear more about how the Swiss have worked to achieve this, says Simoni.
To Røros and Bergen
Christoph Meyer, president of SASTE, expressed great appreciation on behalf of the association’s members for NGU’s organisation of this unique meeting.
- Many thanks to Annina and Mark to accompany the excursion during our visit to NGU and Trondheim. We are looking forward to our trip to the copper mines of the Røros mineral district and our onward journey though the spectacular landscape along the coastline of western Norway to Bergen.
