The diagram (left) illustrates the relative significance of the Norwegian titanium feedstocks producers (1998) based on data from J. Gambogi (USGS commodity summaries). The numbers are in 1000 tons contained TiO2. In 1998 Titania produced ilmenite for sulphate process TiO2-pigment producers such as Kronos Titan in Fredrikstad, while Tinfos Titanium and Iron was producing chlorinatable slag based on ilmenite from the Beenup deposit in Australia. After the closure of the Beenup operation in 1999, Tinfos is now producing sulphate slag based on ilmenite from Titania and chlorinatable slag based on low-MgO slag from elsewhere.
