The deposit was investigated for rutile in 1995-97 in a collaboration project between the American titanium pigment producer DuPont, the oil company Conoco that at that time was owned by DuPont, and NGU.

Based on 15,000 m of core drilling 300 million tons of rutile-bearing eclogite averaging 4% rutile has been identified; additional "possible ore resources" are very large.

The DuPont/Conoco/NGU project was closed at the end of 1997; since then various unsuccessful attempts has been done to promote the continuation of the project.

A working group "RutilNett" has been set up to promote the further development of the deposit coordinated by county geologist Bjørn Russenes.
