Continental shelf

During the last 2-3 decades, NGU has built up a wealth of experience in the acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical datasets from numerous airborne geophysical surveys onshore and offshore Norway.

Our geoscientists combine advanced hardware and software tools to process and interpret data. Data collection and research are both carried out in close collaboration with industry partners and other national and international institutions and universities. The oil industry often needs information about the deeper parts of the continental shelf in order to understand fundamental processes, such as uplift, basin formation and temperature variation all through geological time.

The information for this task is arrived at through integrating seismic interpretations of data about gravity, magnetism, heat flow and petrophysics.
