Summary
An interpretation of the aeromagnetic data acquired by NGU, Geco and Amarok from the Norwegian Sea between 66°N and 69°50'N is reported The LAS-89 survey has revealed several new structures not discernible in the old NGU data sets. This is due to the use of more sensitive magnetometers, closer line spacing and more accurative navigation. Most of the magnetic anomalies within the survey may be interpreted in terms of a fault-related basement relief. Interpretation of depth of 10 km in the Ribban Basin and up to 15 km in the Træna Basin. The deep-seated low magnetic rocks may, however, represent downfaulted Palaeozoic or amphibolite-facies gneisses. A correlation between Jurassic-Cretaceous faulting and underlying basement topography indicates that the deep structural setting may have guided the location of the later faulting.
