The most important task is to collect and interpret data about natural stone deposits and to make them available to industry and land use management services through NGU¿s databases.
In addition to surveying and evaluating deposits that can be exploited in the future, the team is also involved in characterization of ancient quarries, aspects related to ancient and modern use of stone in the society and techniques for mineralogical and geochemical characterization of stone resources.
The team also participates in international research on natural stone, including studies of ancient quarries in the Middle East.
