Geology for society for 150 years - the legacy after Kjerulf

Gråsteinen 12

Year published: 2008

Printed edition: NOK 150,-

Geological resources have always played a central role in society, from the Stone Age, via the Bronze and Iron Age, to today's Oil Age. Obtaining geological knowledge for the Norwegian society's changing needs has been the cornerstone of the Geological Survey of Norway's (NGU) activities since its foundation in 1858.

In this volume of "Gråsteinen" some of NGU's scientists and their external collaborators describe how geological processes have shaped Norway and form the basis of today's society. Some of these processes took place millions or billions of years ago, others are taking place today, and yet others will take place in the future.
