Maps & data

NGU is the national institution for knowledge on bedrock, mineral resources, surficial deposits and groundwater in Norway. Knowledge is collected, processed and distributed compiled as maps showing physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of the country's bedrock, surficial deposits and groundwater. All maps are available through our map catalog. It is distributed both in printer friendly version and as a geographical online retrival system.  On this webpage you find all the main maps and database services NGU provide.

Geophysical maps and data

Dragon

The national geophysics database DRAGON (DiRect Access to Geophysics On the Net) contains data on regional geophysics and ground geophysics. These databases are based on data acquired through NGU's mapping and interpretation of the Earth's magnetic field, gravity, heat flow, radioactive radiation and electrical conductivity. They also contain information on areas abroad and on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Radon gas hazard map

Radon

Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas occuring naturally as a decay product of radioactive bedrock. Radon gas from natural sources can accumulate in buildings and is concidered a health hazard. Epidemiological evidence shows a clear link between breathing high concentrations of radon and lung cancer. NGU has composed radon maps showing areas concidered hig risk for radon gas exposition. Local authorities and planning agencies can utilize these maps and implement protective measures in exposed areas.
