Since January 2007:

PhD: Basin architecture and lithospheric structure in the Barents Sea Region from geophysical modelling.

The PhD is part of the research project "PETROBAR: Petroleum-related regional studies of the Barents Sea region" funded the Research Council of Norway (NFR) and StatoilHydro under the PETROMAKS programme.

Partners in the research project are: Department of Geosciences (project leader) and Physics of Geological Processes (PGP), University of Oslo; Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen; International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS); Geological Survey of Norway (NGU); and Volcanic Basin Petroleum Research (VBPR).

The aim of the PhD project is investigate the deep structures of the Barents Sea. The basement setting, typology and properties are study and investigated using different geophysical models. Potential field methods are combined with petrophysical data and existent seismological model with the propose to build a new 3D consistent crustal model.

The model will better refine the structure of the region and define densities and susceptibility distribution. That will help to a better understanding of the Barents Sea region evolution and linkage between basins formation and deep crustal structures.
